Midsummer #26
2019, Acrylic on board, 100x60cm
In the therapeutic ripples of this allegorical vision I see what appears to be two celestial beings acting out their sublime narrative. The loose weave of the surface is breaking apart, giving a glimpse of the 'reality' that lies behind. At a distance far away on the horizon is a hazy dragon-like cloud formation, which appears to have two faces. The first face seems brash and hot-blooded, while the second face seems older, calmer and wiser. He has just absorbed a stinging blow from the creature above, her tail-sting still red from the aggressive assault. The staggered brush strokes seem to create small shimmering waves in the ’depths’ behind the surface giving slight animation to the she-beast in the sky. But her assault is salutary because it causes him to grow from the brash youth into fruitful maturity.
