Beyond profit and loss
06 Jun 2018
Within the God’s-eye view of this painting one can see an outgrowth breaking through a grid-like pattern which forms the ground. It suggests a crack or anomaly in the routine common-sense world, or a derealisation of what has become naturalised and seen as ’real’. Their is tension between the artificial grid-like pattern and the natural material it consists of. There is also pattern, albeit less obvious, to be found in the break-away outgrowth. The presence of pattern speaks of social structures and ways of life.
