As a key paintings give access, or as a guide they nudge, pull and push the mind, and the direction of thought. As filters they select from the infinite complex of possibilities, from the pool of the subconscious, and one’s continuous lived experience.

The focal point could be her face. Comparing the different expressions in the four repetitions, reveals something of the motions within her. She seems to have a weighty purpose, something sublime, or terrible even, as if she is not just human, but something more. But then again, she is not human, she is a representation, a painted figure, doing what painted figures do, in their universe of the artwork.

In these repetitions we see different versions of her at this time, four possibilities simultaneously actual at any point. Four possibilities of who she is, a being, enabled and determined, contingent on her thoughts, her horizon of possibilities, the thoughts that she chose to have, her enquiries from experience, and the amount of effort she made to think, to be her fullest.

To me she seems to be in the presence of a cold disinterested audience. She is in a disinterested environment, where she is suing her continuous lived experience for a range of possibilities, a righteous path, and, perhaps also, an endless string of second chances.
